As teams continue to form in preparation for Season Zero of Overwatch Contenders, the excitement for competition and opportunity continues to build. Due to the overwhelming response from the community, and the number of team signups overall, some adjustments will be made to the tournament’s Open Qualifier Stage schedule:
North American Open Qualifiers:
Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th – Open Qualifier Matches now begin at 9:00 AM PDT.
European Open Qualifiers:
Saturday, June 10th and Sunday, June 11th – Open Qualifier Matches now begin at 12:00 PM CEST (3:00 AM PDT).
Although the changes to the Open Qualifier Schedule will lead to a longer day of competition for participants, the addition of extra time to this stage is to help ensure that all matches prior to the broadcasted Quarterfinals are completed before the stream goes live (broadcast times remain the same for all four Qualifier dates, as previously outlined). Another goal is to allow players a break after reaching the Top 8 on their Qualifying day, before having to play out the remainder of the bracket.
Group Stage and Playoff Scheduling Changes
Alongside the changes to the Open Qualifier times, there are also changes to the schedule for the Group Stage and Playoffs of Season Zero. North American matches for Weeks 3, 4, and 5 will be played on the Sundays of these weeks, while the European matches will be played on the respective Saturdays. The updated dates are as follows:
European Group Stage Matches: Saturday, June 17th and Saturday, June 24th.
North American Group Stage Matches: Sunday, June 18th and Sunday, June 25th.
European Playoffs: Saturday, July 1st
North American Playoffs: Sunday, July 2nd
More specific broadcast times will become available for the Group Stage and Playoffs as the Open Qualifier Stage concludes.
